Pizza Tower
The most alive a 2D platformer has felt in years.
Pizza Tower is loud. It is fast. It looks like a cartoon that was drawn slightly too quickly and is now furious about it, and it moves like nothing else we played in 2023.
The whole game is about momentum. You build speed, you keep it, you smash through walls and enemies and stay in constant motion. When you finally reach the end of a level the game flips a switch and sends you sprinting back the way you came against a timer. It turns a normal platformer level into a two-part performance, and hitting a clean run feels incredible.
Nothing else made us grin and swear in the same breath as often as this did.
The warning label
It is exhausting on purpose. The noise, the speed, and the constant chaos on screen can be a lot, and the score-chasing rank at the end of each level will stress out anyone with a completionist streak. That intensity is exactly the appeal, but it is worth knowing before you dive in.
